Kindergarten – 5th Grades
Greenleaf Friends Academy operates a quality elementary program giving students the opportunity to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Our program is designed to provide the best academic instruction in a Christian environment with a Bible-based philosophy.
Our Kindergarten class offers Monday through Friday instruction in the mornings, (8:30 to 11:30) with the option of sending your Kindergarten student to the GFA Day Care in the afternoon if you prefer. Our Kindergarten academics has a strong emphasis on early reading skills. The students learn individual as well as blended letter sounds. The program includes math skills and correlated activities in science, social studies, language arts, health, art, music, and physical education.
Children in grades 1st through 5th are instructed in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. Bible, art, music, Spanish and physical education further complement the curriculum.
Emphasis is given to reading and comprehension skills to support understanding in other subject areas. The Bible curriculum is a program designed to provide a historical study of scripture, memorization, and an application to daily living. Biblical character traits are emphasized regularly and Bible verses are learned weekly.
When the school was established in 1908 it focused on classical truths for moral, intellectual and spiritual benefit. Today the school continues to integrate some Classical Christian Education methods into classroom instruction. This education is based upon a three-part learning model (the Trivium) that allows students to absorb, analyze and articulate at the appropriate ages: Absorb (Grammar stage) – Collect, memorize and categorize facts, Analyze (Logic stage) – Question relationships between facts, think critically, and Articulate (Rhetoric stage) – Develop persuasive arguments and articulate truth.

Extra-curricular and social activities are offered as an important balance to academic subjects. Students are given opportunities to participate in musical groups and concerts, field trips, chapel every week, spelling bees and special presentations to retirement centers.
Our goal is to help your child reach his or her own highest potential. To maximize individual attention, we offer moderate-sized classes and self-contained programs to challenge students with high ability. We recognize the key role of parents in the learning process and place a high priority on parent/teacher communications.
